Alex Eala will begin her clay campaign on Wednesday when she takes on Julia Grabher in the first round of the 2026 Linz Open. This will be the Filipina star’s first match since suffering a Round of 16 exit at the Miami Open last month.
Eala and Grabher have never faced each other before on the WTA Tour. Grabher is currently ranked 89th in the world. The Austrian’s last appearance came at the Megasaray Hotels Open in Turkey, with Grabher losing in the Round of 16.
Eala is coming off a two-week hiatus, with the Quezon City native opting to train at Rafa Nadal Academy during the break to help her prepare for the clay swing. She is now 46th in the world, having dropped one spot in the latest WTA rankings.
Eala failed to impress in her previous clay season, with the Filipina losing four of her six matches on the slow surface last year. She will look for a much-better showing at the Upper Austria Ladies Linz event, a WTA 500 tournament.
