The Philadelphia 76ers escaped a valiant rally from the shorthanded Golden State Warriors, 99-98, during their cross-conference matchup in the 2025-26 NBA regular season on Friday morning (PH time) at the Xfinity Mobile Arena.

Down one with eight seconds left, Tyrese Maxey got a decent look but couldn’t convert. Fortunately for Philly, rookie VJ Edgecombe came flying in for the offensive rebound and put the shot back in, giving the Sixers the lead and ultimately the win.

Maxey dominated for the 76ers as he finished with 35 massive points. Former MVP Joel Embiid, returning after sitting out Philadelphia’s previous outing, added 12 points and 6 rebounds in limited minutes.

Two-way player Pat Spencer paced the Warriors with 16 points, while veteran guards Buddy Hield, De’Anthony Melton, and Moses Moody each chipped in 14.

The Sixers erupted for a massive 20-point advantage at the end of the first quarter thanks to Maxey’s hot start. But Golden State showed plenty of grit, chopping what was once a 24-point cushion down to a single point, 92-91, after big buckets from Melton, Quinten Post, and Spencer.

With two and a half minutes left, Gui Santos gave the Warriors the lead, 93-92, and later stretched it to 95-94 with another tough finish.

Golden State played their third straight game without Stephen Curry, who is still sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Now 12-9, the Sixers aim to make it three straight when they face the Milwaukee Bucks in the second game of a back-to-back tomorrow. The Warriors (11-12), meanwhile, will try to regroup and bounce back against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday.
