Alex Eala will open her campaign at the 2026 Bad Homburg Open on Monday evening (PH time), with the Filipina tennis star set to face Elise Mertens in the first round on Centre Court.
Their Round of 32 clash will take place no earlier than 11:30 p.m. tonight, with Eala seeking to reach the second round of a grass court event for the fourth straight time this year.
This will be the third meeting between Eala and Mertens on the WTA Tour, with the Belgian star holding a 2-0 advantage in their previous head-to-head matchups.
Mertens defeated Eala in their first meeting in the round of 32 of the 2023 Jasmin Open, securing a 7-5, 6-0 win. They faced each other for the second time at this year's Madrid Open, with Mertens recording an emphatic 6-2, 6-1 victory in the Round of 64.
Eala will fancy her chances of beating Mertens this time around as she has been in terrific form on grass this season. She is 9-2 on this surface, including capturing the Birmingham Open title and having a semis run at the Berlin Tennis Open.
