Filipino fans are hoping that Alex Eala can secure her second straight title win on grass at Queen's Club and make a deep run at the 2026 HSBC Championships. The road to the finals will be a difficult one, though, for the newly-minted Birmingham Open champion as she was handed a tough draw in the women’s singles event at Queen's.
Eala will open her campaign with a first-round showdown against Chinese qualifier Shuai Zhang on Tuesday. This will be the first-ever meeting between Eala and Zhang on the WTA Tour.
If Eala manages to beat Zhang, she will then face the winner of the showdown between Iva Jovic and Antonia Ružić in the second round. An Eala-Jovic clash will be an immediate rematch of their first-round meeting at the 2026 French Open, which the American won convincingly in straight sets,
Other possible opponents for Eala in the latter stages of the HSBC Championships are No. 2 seed Amanda Anisimova in the quarterfinals, No. 4 seed Belinda Bencic in the semifinals, and No. 1 seed Elena Rybakina in the finals.
