Alex Eala will have some work to do in the 2026 Birmingham Open Finals after she dropped the opening set 5-7 in Sunday's championship showdown with Nikola Bartunkova on Centre Court.
Eala got off to a dream start on Centre Court, holding her serve to love in the opening game to grab a 1-0 lead.
The two finalists traded service holds until the 11th game, when Bartunkova finally nabbed the first break of the match to move 6-5 in front.
The Czech followed that up with a gritty service hold to claim the opening set in one hour and three minutes.
This is the first time in the tournament that the top-seeded Filipina lost the opening set in her match.
