In Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals, the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 111-103, winning the series 4-3 and advancing to the NBA Finals for the first time in 12 years.
After the game, Spurs star Victor Wembanyama — in his first-ever playoff appearance — was named Western Conference Finals MVP. It was an unsurprising selection.
Wembanyama faced intense defensive attention from the Thunder throughout the game, but his elite skill and immense two-way impact kept the Spurs in control. In the third quarter, he threw down a spectacular poster dunk over Chet Holmgren. In the decisive fourth quarter, Wembanyama displayed superstar poise, burying a step-back three-pointer as part of a stretch in which the Spurs opened the period with four consecutive threes to seize the lead. Down the stretch, Wembanyama's presence in the paint discouraged the Thunder from attacking the rim, helping San Antonio close out the victory.
Wembanyama finished with a team-high 22 points and 7 rebounds. He also set a new record: according to statistics, Wembanyama became the first player in NBA history to record at least 15 made three-pointers and 15 blocks in a single playoff series.
