Morocco have announced their 26-man squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026™.
On Tuesday 26 May, head coach Mohamed Ouahbi revealed his eagerly awaited squad list for the global tournament. The coach, who led Morocco to the FIFA U-20 World Cup™ title in 2025 and took over from Walid Regragui at the helm of the senior team last March, has decided to select nine Atlas Lions who made history by reaching the semi-finals of Qatar 2022. Among them are goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, Nayef Aguerd, Sofyan Amrabat and Achraf Hakimi, the latter who will play in the UEFA Champions League final on Saturday, 30 May with Paris Saint-Germain.

"We relied heavily on the training camp, and I’d already said at the first camp [in March] that some players who weren’t there also had the chance to make it to the World Cup," said Ouahbi. "I really wanted to keep the door open for everyone. So we kept track of the players, had discussions, and organised travel. We really kept tabs on a great many players. That proves one thing: we have a huge pool of talent."
Among the notable inclusions is 18-year-old Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, who is set to make his debut. "We’re very proud and delighted to have him with us", said Ouahbi of the midfielder, who could also have represented France. "The most important thing is that he is very proud to represent Morocco. He’s a good lad, very thoughtful, with lots of qualities. During the 25 minutes he played with us [in the friendly against Burundi during the training camp], we could see straight away that he picked things up very quickly. It’s a pleasure to work with players like that."
However, Sofiane Boufal, who took part in Morocco’s training camp this May in his national team return after two years, was not selected.
"[Boufal] would have deserved it if I’d been able to pick 30 or 40 players," said Ouahbi. "Based on his performances, he deserved it. The players I’ve picked deserve it too; I’ve made a choice. Boufal plays more centrally, in the number 10 role. Right from the start, I was honest with him and told him that the number 10 spot was already taken. He’s obviously still a good player."
