Filipino super bantamweight prospect Carl Jammes Martin has been itching to land a world title fight following his fourth round knockout victory over Carlo Demecillo.
Martin stressed that he’s already ripe for a big fight and doesn’t want to anymore take tuneup bouts like that of Demecillo.
“I don’t want to have these kinds of fights anymore. I want the big fight,” said Martin.
“I’m at the right age and I believe I’m already ripe for a world championship fight,” said the 26-year-old pride of Ifugao.
Martin’s camp is closely monitoring the movement atop the super bantamweight rankings which is currently reigned by Japanese superstar Naoya Inoue.
The undisputed champion is rumored to be moving up to the featherweight division while fellow pound-for-pound ranked fighter and title contender Junto Nakatani went under knife to fix an orbital bone fracture, forcing him to miss a significant amount of time.
Should Inoue vacate his belts, it could open up an opportunity for Martin to fight for a world title.
“We’re monitoring the situation. This could be the chance for me to fight for a world championship,” said Martin.
“I want to fight for the vacant crown. I don’t want to play games anymore. I want to go for the title fight right away against whoever is the top contender,” stressed Martin.
The undefeated Martin, who currently boasts a 27-0 record, is currently ranked No. 2 in the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and No. 7 in the International Boxing Federation (IBF). He is No. 12 in the World Boxing Association (WBA) and No. 15 in the World Boxing Council (WBC).
