Victor Wembanyama could be facing the first suspension of his career after being ejected during the San Antonio Spurs’ Game 4 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to reporter Brett Siegel.
Siegel reported that the NBA will review Wembanyama’s Flagrant 2 foul on Naz Reid and determine whether additional discipline, including a suspension, is warranted. However, he later added that the Spurs do not currently expect further punishment to be handed down.
The incident occurred with 8:39 remaining in the second quarter of Minnesota’s 114-109 victory. While battling for position, Wembanyama swung his right elbow and struck Reid in the throat area. Officials reviewed the play and upgraded the foul to a Flagrant 2, resulting in an automatic ejection.
It marked the first ejection of Wembanyama’s NBA career.
Before exiting, the Spurs star played just over 12 minutes, finishing with 4 points and 4 rebounds on 2-of-5 shooting.
The potential suspension now looms large for San Antonio as the series intensifies.
