Tamaraws head coach Sean Chambers confirmed the development with the 6-foot-5 Season 88 high school basketball Most Valuable Player expected to bring size and versatility to the seniors’ squad.
Cabonilas will join an FEU side that settled for fifth place in Season 88, winning just seven of its 14 matches despite being led by star guard Janrey Pasaol, who captured that season’s Most Valuable Player honors.
Fortunately for FEU, it will be getting a proven winner in Cabonilas, who not only topped the elimination round’s individual race but also earned Finals MVP honors after leading FEU-Diliman to the championship.
In the high school division, the 6-foot-5 forward averaged 15.8 points, 8.9 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.5 blocks during the eliminations.
The 19-year-old raised his level in the Finals, where FEU-D defeated National University-Nazareth School in three games. He averaged 24.0 points, 12.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.3 blocks, and 2.0 steals to steer the Baby Tamaraws to their 10th title.
