The Houston Rockets entered the halftime break with a 51-47 lead over the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 5 of their first-round series in the 2026 Western Conference Playoffs on Thursday (PH time) at Crypto.com Arena.

Jabari Smith Jr. and Tari Eason each scored a team-high 10 points for the Rockets, who trail 1-3 in the best-of-seven series. They stepped up in the absence of Kevin Durant, who missed the game due to an ankle injury.

Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves finally made his much-anticipated return after missing 9 games because of an oblique injury, coming off the bench in the first quarter.

He got off to a strong start, scoring 8 points during that period to help the Lakers build a 28-21 lead after the first 12 minutes of play.

The Rockets battled right back, though, outscoring the Lakers 30-19 in the second quarter to take a four-point lead at the break.

What was the Lakers doing in the second quarter? They were hesitant in ball handling and shooting, with a large number of turnovers.
