Team Liquid nears 1st-round sweep image
By Tiffany Dela Cruz

Team Liquid PH moved on the cusp of a first round sweep after dismantling TNC, 2-0, in the regular season of the MPL Philippines Season 17 on Saturday at the Victoria Sports Tower in Quezon City.

The defending champions stretched their winning streak to six for a pristine 6-0 record and will look to complete a perfect first-round sweep when they take on ONIC PH on April 18.

True to form all season, Team Liquid opened with a dominant 12-2 Game 1 win over TNC in just 13 minutes, powered by a masterful Khaleed performance from Jaypee “Jaypee” Dela Cruz. He finished with 10 assists and two kills against one death.

Team Liquid wrote the same lopsided story in Game 2, seizing a 15-5 win in less than 15 minutes to complete the sweep.

Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno (Harley) led the charge with eight kills and four assists, while Sanford “Sanford” Vinuya (Uranus) dominated on the frontline en route to a 4-1-10 line in the series-clinching win.

In other matches, Twisted Minds dealt AP Bren its third straight defeat with a 2-0 sweep, while Team Falcons PH overpowered Omega Esports, 2-0, to notch its third win of the regular season.

Miguel “Sionnn” Alcantara (Zhuxin) came up big in Twisted Minds’ close 15-9 Game 1 win, finishing with eight kills and five assists against one death, while Lance “Lansu” Misa (Arlott) took charge in Game 2 with a 1-2-13 line to complete the sweep.

Twisted Minds improved to 2-3, drawing level with AP Bren with identical records.

Meanwhile, Charles “FlapTzy” Canon and Rowgien “Owgwen” Unigo took charge as Team Falcons improved to solo second with a 3-1 record following their lopsided win over the Smart-backed squad.

FlapTzy (Arlott) registered five kills and three assists without a single death as Team Falcons drew first blood with an 11-7 Game 1 win in 13 minutes.

Owgwen (Marcell) then flaunted his playmaking skills with a game-high 20 assists in the close 23-15 Game 2 victory in 25 minutes.

Omega Esports slid to 1-4 in the standings to remain at the eighth spot, tied with TNC.
