San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama is listed as doubtful for Wednesday’s matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers due to a rib contusion, according to Shams Charania.
Charania reported that while Wembanyama is unlikely to suit up against Portland, there is optimism he will return for at least one of San Antonio’s final three regular-season games. To qualify for end-of-season awards, Wembanyama must log at least 20 minutes in one of those remaining contests, which include games against the Dallas Mavericks and Denver Nuggets.
Further encouraging news came from Chris Haynes, who reported that Wembanyama’s MRI showed no significant damage. The Spurs are expected to monitor him on a day-to-day basis.
Wembanyama sustained the injury during San Antonio’s previous game against the Philadelphia 76ers, exiting at halftime. Before going down, he was dominant—posting 31 points on 10-of-12 shooting, along with 13 rebounds, showcasing the form that has kept him firmly in the season awards conversation.
