The Premier Volleyball League stars embrace the spotlight as they look forward to the first Volleyball All-Star Showcase in the professional era on May 1 in Candon City.

Capital1 rookie Bella Belen, who is still on track to start as the second open spiker for Team Heart with 16.03 percent of votes behind Creamline’s Jema Galanza (27.15 percent), is excited to give back to the fans after emerging as one of the league’s brightest stars, leading the scoring race this PVL All-Filipino Conference.

“I’m really happy because people are seeing how I’ve been playing this conference in the PVL, what I can contribute and share with the fans,” Belen said.

“This is for the fans. For sure, they have players they’d like to see playing together on one team, so this is their chance to see that happen.”

The three-time University Athletic Association of the Philippines Most Valuable Player out of National University also looks forward to teaming up with other stars, as Cignal’s rising star Erika Santos, took a commanding 44.57 percent of the votes for the starting opposite spiker position, Jeanette Panaga of Creamline retains the top spot for the middle blocker race with 33.39 percent, with Nxled’s two-time Finals MVP Phillips (21.56 percent).

Belen also has a chance to reunite with Alas Pilipinas teammates Justine Jazareno of Akari (50.48 percent) and Creamline’ setter Jia De Guzman (79.91 percent).

“I’m also very excited to be teammates with players I haven’t played with before, especially my idols. It’s a different feeling when you actually get to share the court with them, even for a short time,” Belen said.

“I just want to absorb as much as I can from them. So I’m really excited to see what the final tally of the votes will be.”

Fellow PVL stars share the same excitement, including Kianna Dy of the PLDT High Speed Hitters, who welcomed the league’s move to bring the showcase outside Metro Manila.

“I guess it’s also good for the fans who can’t travel to Manila. They’ll get to experience the games that usually happen here. It’s nice to bring the event to Candon, and I think it’s going to be fun since it’s the first time it’s happening there,” Dy said.

Meanwhile, Vanie Gandler and Dawn Catindig of the Cignal Super Spikers are also elated for the opportunity to take part in the spectacle.

“It’s going to be fun, especially if we get to be part of it. We’ll have the chance to play with other players from different teams. For sure, it will be a fun experience,” Gandler said.

Catindig believes the showcase is also a way of giving back to the supporters.

“It’s for the fans. To see their volleyball idols. And maybe to show them a different side of us,” she said.
