The NBA is investigating the Milwaukee Bucks over their handling of the league’s player participation policy and conflicting statements regarding Giannis Antetokounmpo’s health, sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania.
According to Charania, league investigators have interviewed Antetokounmpo, the Bucks, and team doctors. The investigation revealed differing accounts: the Bucks told the NBA they don’t believe Giannis is ready but he wants to play, while Giannis stated he wants to play but the team will not medically clear him.
Charania added that the situation highlights ongoing dysfunction between the franchise and its star, following failed trade talks last August and at the February trade deadline.
Despite the tension, the 31-year-old Antetokounmpo has maintained strong on-court performance this season, averaging 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game. In a recent interview, he expressed frustration over being sidelined: "You know who you are dealing with. So for somebody to come and tell me to not play or not to compete, it's like a slap in my face. So, I don't know where the relationship goes from there."
