Alex Eala is in serious danger of making an early exit at the 2026 Miami Open, dropping the opening set 6-7 (6) against Laura Siegemund in their second-round encounter on Stadium Court at Hard Rock Stadium.
Eala looked unstoppable at the start of the match, racing to a 3-0 lead after breaking Siegemund’s first service game. The German finally got on the board in the fourth game, saving two break point opportunities to cut the deficit to 1-3.
The momentum swung Siegemund’s way after that, winning the next two games to tie the first set at 3-3. The No. 31 seed regained the lead in the seventh game after a solid service hold. Siegemund saved a break point chance in the eighth game before holding her serve to tie it again at 4-4.
Eala and Siegemund traded service holds in the next four games to send the first set into a tiebreaker. The German quickly took control in the tiebreak, grabbing a 5-2 lead. Eala answered right back, winning the next four points to take a 6-5 lead.
Eala couldn’t close it out, though, with Siegemund winning the next three points to take the opening set in one hour and 23 minutes.
