Not everyone is happy with Bam Adebayo’s 83-point explosion against the Washington Wizards on Wednesday (PH time). Basketball fans took to social media to blast the Miami Heat star for how he amassed his record-breaking scoring output and passed the great Kobe Bryant for the second-most points in an NBA game.
One fan blasted Adebayo’s feat on X, calling the way he achieved the record as “unethical basketball.”
“What Bam Adebayo did tonight is less honorable than any brand of OKC basketball people complain about. We can acknowledge Bam’s greatness while being honest about the events that unfolded to achieve the record. It was unethical basketball. Simple as that,” one fan wrote.
The Heat intentionally fouled down the stretch to get some extra offensive possessions for Adebayo to break Bryant’s 81-point mark. That didn’t sit well with fans of the Laker great.
“Something doesn’t feel right about Bam Adebayo passing Kobe Bryant’s scoring record with 40 free throw attempts,” another fan noted.
"This Bam Adebayo shit is the most unethical thing I’ve ever watched. Intentionally fouling up 30 in the 4th quarter multiple times to get the ball back and throwing yourself into guys to get more free throws? This isn’t basketball. Legitimately one of the lamest things I’ve seen," another fan argued.
“Bam Adebayo just foulbaiting up 20+ against a tanking team that’s shamelessly playing along and he’s gonna break Kobe’s record with over double the FTA. The NBA died tonight,” one fan commented.
“This is a disgrace to Kobe's 81,” another fan claimed.
“Bruh…. As Kobe fans we would’ve loved and respected somebody TAKING Kobe’s record because it would’ve been the closest thing to seeing Kobe you F****N IDIOTS!! But instead they manufactured and forced it to happen. Somebody didn’t like the Lakers putting up that Pat Riley. So they tarnished one of our Kobe statues. But it’s still the highest of any guard or perimeter player ever. So it’s not about that. The league showed that at anytime, a group of refs can just decide you’re getting everything called for you. And the guy you’re guarding could have 0 for the night,” one fan ranted.
Adebayo established new NBA records in the win against the Wizards with 36 made free throws and 43 attempts from the charity stripe. He easily passed Adrian Dantley’s previous record of 28 free throws in a game.
Adebayo joined Wilt Chamberlain as the only players in league history to score at least 82 points in a single game.
