The 1v1 King of the Islands National Finals tournament is off and running. The top 32 players who punched their tickets through the Regional Finals made the trip to the Market! Market! Activity Center on Saturday for the country’s biggest grassroots basketball event of the year.
Festivities kicked off with the North and South finalists being introduced to the crowd. A brief opening ceremony followed, with the players singing the national anthem and reciting the Oath of Sportsmanship to formally pledge their commitment to respect and fair play in the tournament.
The National Finals will be jam-packed with intense 1v1 basketball action. The landmark event will start off with the qualifying rounds, with all 36 games played during this stage being a North vs. South matchup. A cross-over single round robin format will be used here to determine who will advance to the round of 16.
The knockout rounds will soon follow, with one North player and one South player advancing to the championship match. The winner of that North vs. South clash will become the first-ever 1v1 King of the Islands National Champion and will bring home the P300,000 top prize.
A pocket tournament will also be held in the National Finals, an event designed for players who failed to make the quarterfinals. A voting system through the Alta Sports app will help determine the four participants, with a brand-new iPhone 17 awaiting the winner.
